The Former President's Framework of Punishment and Favor

Trump's voracious appetite for revenge has rapidly morphed into a methodical framework. Within the past year, the chief executive's rage and whims have assumed the form of government actions similar to analogous to past repressive governments. Federal personnel who do not cooperate are summarily dismissed and replaced by devotees. Political leaders who confront him encounter legal action, judicial process and sanctions. Adversaries have been categorized under executive orders as “anti-American”, “opposed to religious values” and “opposing economic freedom”, and threatened with legal action as “security threats”.

Government Institutions Remade

Every instance involving legal action of Trump's enemies and immunity for supporters exhibits its own particular characteristics. But, notwithstanding their individual character, they exemplify expressions of what has arisen as a calculated method. Those episodes are anything but random. The administration's removal of Department of Justice lawyers and FBI personnel, accompanied by his appointment of devotees in key roles, commenced quickly, promptly assumed a pattern, and has now been formed into a structure. DoJ and the Federal Bureau have been transformed into ideological organizations under his explicit command to implement his demands. Wrongdoing has been rendered normal. It represents the apparatus of revenge.

Leadership is preoccupied with penalizing the leader's perceived adversaries than they are with safeguarding our public welfare.

Internal the System

The beginnings of this system has been revealed in the lawsuit of multiple former top FBI executives submitted in the ninth month in the federal court in DC against top official an administration figure and justice department head Pam Bondi for wrongful dismissal in “a initiative of retribution against them for what administration figures judged to be a refusal to demonstrate proper devotion”. In the complaint that Brian Driscoll, the previous temporary head, describes a discussion in which he “publicly acknowledged the impropriety of his conduct”.

Driscoll had sought to protect FBI agents from being terminated, the complaint states. The director informed him that “administration officials” – understood by him to be the presidential administration and justice department – had directed him to dismiss everyone who they considered as having participated in a law enforcement case against the president. The filing goes on: “Patel stated that he had to dismiss the people his leaders told him to fire, because his ability to hold his own role was contingent on the removal of the agents who were involved in cases involving the chief executive. He explained that there was no option he or Driscoll could do to stop these or any other firings, because ‘the agency attempted to put the leader in jail and he remembers.’” After he advised him he was violating the agency's own policies, he supposedly said “he recognized that and he was aware the essence of the summary firings were probably illegal”.

Broad Consequences

Following Patel's reported confession to Driscoll, the Department of Justice and the law enforcement agency have been gutted and redirected for Trump's retribution system. Several of the agency's senior executives were terminated or forced out in the initial period of the presidency. About 4,500 legal professionals at DoJ have taken a “early exit scheme”. At least multiple DoJ lawyers, among them those in the Manhattan division, quit in protest over what they viewed as partisan influence in abandoning the criminal prosecution against the New York City mayor, the mayor, in return for his collaboration with his Immigration and Customs Enforcement detentions of migrants. The ethics division of DoJ, which manages misconduct investigations, has been reduced to a handful of lawyers. The rights protection unit has been devastated: the majority of its personnel has resigned. One-third of executives at DoJ have quit. The section implementing environmental law has lost half its management.

Rewards and Penalties

Regarding the mayor's situation, the temporary lawyer for the NY office, the official, resigned in protest against what she characterized as the “trade-off”. The border official, his “enforcement chief,” appeared as the implementer with the mayor on a media outlet to state: “If he doesn't come through, I will return in New York City.”. And, Emil Bove, previously the senior DoJ official and a ex-lawyer, who negotiated the deal, was awarded an appellate federal judgeship, a potential pathway to the judicial branch.

Trump's exemption for offenses perpetrated while in office, awarded by the remarkable ruling of the GOP-led on the highest court, thus blocking his legal action over the January 6 insurrection and safeguarding his political viability for the presidential race, is the basis on which he stands to defend his supporters. With such immunity, he has been liberated to authorize misconduct. The impact of the court judgment permeates his government and the Republican Party thoroughly. The legal case has escalated. As a past leader's administration lawyer he commented about the Watergate
