Tetris Wouldn't Triumph at The Game Awards — Another Award Type May Address This Issue

Each time a significant awards ceremony approaches, there’s always a clamor for introducing additional classifications to honor unsung work and fill the passions of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. That would be fantastic. So would board games, representing someone's personal cause. However, I must insist for pushing forward since similar to single-minded supporters, I possess a compelling case supporting my request remains most pressing above others. This is the request: We need a category for puzzle games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Classifying creative works isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and it will always generate discussions concluding with vague boundaries. This explains why film award organizations don’t do it. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise for the industry of video games, showing incredible range they barely qualify as a single art form.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.

Existing Game Classification System

Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature classifications covering Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these six categories effectively encompass a lot of ground, allowing placement for numerous titles.

Different situation exists for puzzle games. No suitable classification appears to put them. Examine these examples from outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: the architectural riddles from a specific release, the pulse-pounding block-matching of another game, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles in another game. Which classification works between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles published annually lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, except when they manage to fit award groups including Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.

  • One classic puzzle game got overlooked for anything that year
  • Another creative title received no nominations in 2019
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked that year
  • Only a few puzzle games scraped into small studio or handheld classifications

Significance of Puzzle Games

Frequently they represent small games, but the art of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games count as most popular titles worldwide and have been for an extended period.

The iconic tile-matching title competes with popular creative games claiming status as best-selling game of all time; it additionally competes for best game of all time. Logic titles represent cornerstones for gaming as medium, and engaging with diverse game types.

The Solution and Justification

Puzzle games wouldn’t have such difficulty. It would be easy to populate a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, given the need to exclude many worthy titles.

And to reiterate, these are games without proper classification at major gaming awards. Puzzle game makers function at the demanding boundary interactive creation, creating some of essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. Don't make them wait 35 years.
