Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hard courts

A comeback Medvedev won his initial trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has had a challenging year, managing just one match at the big events and suffering a setback at the US Open.

The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serve in especial - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally splitting with long-time coach his previous coach.

Currently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually progressed in the recent weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive triumph over opponent Moutet.

It is his initial title after the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface after spring of the previous year.

The win also means the Russian has won 21 championships at 21 various events.

"For the first time I am participating in a event with my two daughters at once, so to get a trophy is especially meaningful," stated tennis professional the champion.

"This victory is in dedication of my child my daughter, because the first title I got when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had lost his past six championship matches, including in the German tournament previously this season.

Medvedev's counter-punching play style and regular reactions on the tennis court had led commentators to question if his skill to compete at the highest level was concluded.

Yet the athlete has implemented adjustments in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and play aggressively, reinforced by an improved service.

He fought back from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, securing four of the last five points to go ahead.

Both players traded breaks in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his first tour title, took control to create a third set.

He saved four initial break points in a tight final set before Medvedev secured a break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Suitably, the winner secured the win with a rally at the net, with Moutet failing to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
